A  stone  monument  in  the  shape  of  a  writing  brush  (just  beyond  the  pond)  is  Fudezuka.

（池のすぐ向こうにある）筆の形の石造物は筆塚です。

Tsuka（塚）is  a  mound  or  a  tomb  in  English.

塚というのは、英語ではmound（土が少し盛り上がっている場所）やtomb（墓）と表されます。

Fudezuka  was  built  to  show  our  gratitude  to  worn-out    brushes  and  to  wish  for  making  progress  in  calligraphy.

筆塚は、使い古した筆への感謝を表したり、書道の上達を願う目的で作られました。

Michizane  has  been  known  as  a  good  calligrapher.

道真公は書道の名人として知られています。

Only  those  in  the  know  know,  November  2nd  is  the  day  of  calligraphy.

知る人ぞ知ることですが、11月2日は書道の日です。

Please  bring  worn-out  brushes (writing  brushes,  makeup  brushes,  paint  brushes,  and  so  on)  to  Misodetenmangu.

使い古した筆（書道用の筆、化粧筆、絵筆など）を御袖天満宮にお持ちください。

We  Shinto  priests  burn  those  old  brushes  (as  well  as  old  charms)  with  praying  in  January.  We  call  it  Otakiage.

私たち神職が（御守りなどと同様に）お納めいただきました古い筆を、1月中に、祈りを捧げながらお焚き上げいたします。
