〝SODE〟in Japanese culture
最近海外からのお客様を多くお見受けいたしますので、英語でも御袖天満宮のことを紹介させていただきます。
〝Misode〟is a kimono sleeve given by Sugawara Michizane who this shrine enshrines. 〝Tenmangu〟is one of the category of Japanese shrines. From ancient times, in Japan, we Japanese use many sayings such as 〝Sode Furiau mo Tashou no En (袖振り合うも多生の縁)*①〟, 〝Tamoto wo Wakatsu (たもとを分かつ)*②〟, 〝Nai Sode wa Furenai(無い袖は振れない)*③〟 and so on. Above all, 〝SODE〟is used as the word related to 〝E N〟in Japanese. 〝E N〟is the concept we love so much, which means 〝fate〟,〝relation〟,〝connection〟〝chance〟,〝bonds〟, and 〝destiny〟.
Thank you for your visiting. We are so glad to have you here.
